With the increase in the use and features of science, medical, semiconductor and engineering laboratories, new laboratory setups have begun to be needed. While a new laboratory will be established, the purpose of the laboratory, the devices to be used, location, safety (biosecurity) and budget are the most important topics to consider.

The purpose and function of the laboratory, the devices to be used in the laboratory, laboratory working conditions, storage conditions, air conditioning and ventilation system are effective in making choices.

When purchasing equipment, attention should be paid to points such as the power drawn by the devices, the process gases to be used in the devices, the expenditure needs and the volume occupied by the devices.

The layout of the laboratory should also be created in the most efficient way possible. While creating the plan, items such as interconnected machines, personnel-material entrance and exit areas, emergency exit plan, distances of devices to electricity, water and process gas installations, and division of different working areas should be taken into consideration.

One of the most important issues related to the laboratory is laboratory safety. Necessary emergency equipment should also be provided after studies such as training on possible hazards and action plans and safety protocols are completed.
