Electronic

Electronics manufacturers should pay special attention to particulate contamination in the manufacture of products such as camera modules, night vision devices, sensitive audio equipment, as even the smallest dust particles can cause severe damage to certain products. Products damaged by particulate contamination cause different losses for manufacturers, which can lead to both money and the cancellation of ISO certificates. Manufacturers have strict electrostatic and micro-pollutant guidelines to ensure product sterility and stability. To enforce these rules, they need clean rooms where particles such as aerosol particles, airborne microbes, dust and vapor particles are kept at low levels.

Medical Device Production

Although there are no clear definitions about medical device production in the ISO 14644 standard, the revised guide documents such as ISO 13485 and USP 800 offer risk management solutions for medical production. Medical device production standards are created by evaluating process devices, consumables and assembly forms, as well as clean room design.

Food

Today, the food and food packaging industries use clean rooms to delay the entry of airborne microbes into foodstuffs. This measure can help extend shelf life, maintain freshness, increase yield and reduce product recalls. Consumers today prefer products that are sparingly processed and contain very few additives. Therefore, the production and packaging of food products in clean environments is a significant challenge for food manufacturers/packers. Clean room technology can be used in food and packaging processes for processes that cannot be performed in a closed machine, such as aseptic processing or packaging. Microorganisms can adhere to airborne particles and therefore when foodstuffs are exposed to air, there is a possibility of airborne contamination. Cleanrooms can be found in many applications in the food industry. While cleanrooms are found mainly in meat and dairy facilities, they can also be used to process gluten- and lactose-free foods.

Defense industry

Biosafety Class (BSL) Laboratories

Biotechnology-based drugs are rapidly coming to market against many rare diseases and common ailments. Biotechnology innovations have increased the number of BSL biosafety level cleanrooms and BSL sites within larger cleanroom operations. BSL protocols are put in place to manage the risks associated with containment, infection, and contagion, depending on the level of study carried out, the origin of the microbe, the agent in question, and the route of exposure. Depending on the appropriate level requirements, the characteristics of the clean room to be used are determined.

Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Industry

In the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry, regulation and quality come first. Strict regulations and guidelines (ISO 14644, GMP, FDA, ISPE etc.) create the need to use high specification clean rooms that can comply with all requirements.
Pharmaceutical manufacturers rely on clean rooms to create pollutant-free, parameter-protective areas, as even the smallest contaminants and microorganisms have such a high impact on drug production and testing.
Time-consuming and expensive closing, cleaning, re-certification and revalidation processes are required to re-operate the chamber, especially in the event of loss of room efficiency for aseptic processes. Therefore, there is a need for a well-designed clean room and a thorough implementation of written procedures (SOP).

Automotive

Cleanroom technology is involved in the automotive industry in different ways. Paint workshops, which include electrostatic painting tunnels where paint is sprayed on the vehicle, are areas where contamination control is carried out and are separated from other parts of the factory by positive pressure. The air in these tunnels is filtered by high efficiency filters and it is aimed to remove excess paint and other pollutants from the environment within a certain range of air velocity coming out of the tunnel.
As vehicles have become more technological, production has become more complex rather than just assemblage. Components are often combined through calibrated sensors, an intelligent computer system, and unique safety features. During the manufacturing process, sensitive elements can be damaged by changes in temperature, humidity and pressure parameters and are particularly vulnerable to contamination and defects caused by static electricity. A controlled environment is required to prevent the risk of product failure and guarantee customer safety by correctly installing all tools and the right components.

Cosmetic

In the cosmetics industry, clean rooms are designed according to certain criteria aimed at reducing microbiological contamination of the environment, ensuring the highest hygiene and cleanliness of the products. The cosmetics industry needs special environments, called clean rooms, that meet the need for high cleanliness and distribution of air. Clean rooms used in the cosmetics industry ensure the continuity of production quality by supplying clean air to companies at certain production stages.

Optical

It is possible to divide the production in the optical sector into two as classical optics and microoptics. In classical optics, especially in the polishing process, too many particles are spread around. Apart from the polishing agent, foreign particles may also be present in these particles. These foreign particles can create micro scratches on optical surfaces. The high air exchange rate used to reduce the particle concentration may cause another problem. In case of fluctuations in the temperature of this high amount of air, the precision of the machines used for the processing of optical surfaces may suffer. In microoptics (eg, cell phone camera production and assembly), attention should be paid to electrostatic discharge to the device, which occurs during assembly, as well as particle problems. Equipment such as ultrasonic bath systems are also used in this industry to achieve the desired cleaning class.

Research and development

Clean room systems are of great importance for research and development processes all over the world. In research and development studies, keeping the working environment stable provides economical and efficient innovations by isolating various variables. Clean rooms become the most important part of research and development processes, thanks to factors such as zero contamination, reducing the production cost by isolating the variables and maximizing the use of valuable resources and materials, and compliance with regulations.
